My name is Cailin Stauth. I am in High School: class of 2027. As I am located in New England, I’ve been skiing all my life. My interest in anthropology, specifically medical anthropology, comes from a comminuted fracture of my humerus in 2023. While I was recovering, a family member gifted me the book “Sapiens” by Yuval Noah Harari. I read it cover to cover and its content, combined with my personal connection, sparked my curiosity. As I explored the fields of archaeology and early humans, I came across photos of myself, around 8 years ago, holding the fossilized hand of an extinct branch of hominid. Dr. Lee Berger, the paleoanthropologist who had discovered Homo Naledi, had been conducting a tour at my local science museum. I was reminded of the interest I had, even at such a young age, in our origins. Ever since, I have been interested in anatomy, the human body, and our evolutionary journey.
